The Birch Seed socks is a simple but very beautiful knitting design that uses two colors of fingering weight yarn. The dainty pattern that emerges combining knit and purl stitches allows for countless interesting combinations - from intense contrast, to soft blend between the two colors to using variegated contrasting yarn for unexpected effect.
The colorwork section is worked with one yarn at the time which makes the knitting fast and friendly to beginners however special enough to be considered for gift knitting.
I hope you have wonderful time knitting and your socks follow you on your adventures!
The pattern is written for two sizes - 64 stitch circumference, being standard for a most of the socks, in the pattern referred to as size Medium and 72 stitch circumference, (in the pattern referred as size Large) for wider foot or slouchier look.
The pattern is designed for US 1 (2.25mm) cable needles, but feel free to adjust the needle according to your liking, the lace pattern and the overall look will not change as long as you keep relatively tight gauge.
For the socks you will use 50-65g of the Main Color and 25-30g ofthe Secondary Color, depending on your gauge and size you knit. Any fingering weight wool sock yarn will work. The pattern will bloomdifferently depending on the type of yarn you use- plain, heathery or variegated colorway.
